  • Pack Nature
    Your French Bulldog puppy will view your family as their new ‘pack’.  Within this pack, their needs to be a clear alpha leader.  If your French Bulldog puppy does not have an alpha leader then they may try and fulfill the roll themselves which in turn may lead to disobedient and destructive behavior.  There are a number of different ways you can show your French Bulldog puppy that you are the alpha leader.  One being always eating your food before your French Bulldog puppy and secondly not letting your French Bulldog puppy go through a door before you.  Once your alpha leadership role is established, you will notice that your French Bulldog puppy will be a lot more likely to listen to you and respect you– especially during the training process.  So try and establish yourself as the alpha leader the moment your new French Bulldog puppy enters your home.
  • The Earlier the Better
    It’s important to start French Bulldog puppy training from as early as possible – ideally from the moment your new pet enters your home.  If you start early then your French Bulldog should remember the training for the rest of their lives.
  • Encouragement
    It’s important to encourage your French Bulldog puppy throughout the training process.  For example, when your French Bulldog puppy completes a command correctly reward them with cuddles or even a small treat.  This will encourage your French Bulldog puppy to continue the good behavior again in the future.
  • Short and Sweet
    Remember, your French Bulldog puppy is only little and therefore will not be able to concentrate for prolonged periods of time.  Therefore, to begin with, training sessions should be no longer than ten minutes in length.  However, you can have a couple of these shorter ten minute training sessions throughout a day.  For example you could have one ten minute session in the morning, one at lunch and one after dinner.
  • Repetition
    Again, due to your French Bulldog puppy’s young age, they will not remember everything instantly.  Because of this you will need to repeat things over and over again before it sticks.  This may frustrate you but try and remain patient.  Just think of what all your time and hard will bring – a well-trained and obedient French Bulldog puppy!
  • Start Simply
    It’s important to start simply when French Bulldog puppy training.  For example start with something easy such as the basic commands ‘sit’, ‘down’ and ‘stay’.  Once your French Bulldog puppy has mastered these then you can move on to more complicated training.
  • Punishment
    You may find yourself getting frustrated during the French Bulldog puppy training process.  But, no matter how frustrated you may get, it’s vital that you never use physical punishment towards your French Bulldog puppy such as hitting or kicking.  You should also avoid yelling at your French Bulldog puppy.  If you do these things then it will just scare your French Bulldog puppy which in turn may make them anxious.  And a scared and anxious French Bulldog puppy will be a lot harder to train.  So remember, try and stay calm and collected and never, ever use physical punishment.
